William Joseph Harrison, Sr., 85, of Vernon, beloved husband to Ethel (McLain) Harrison, passed away on Saturday April 8, 2017 at Rockville General Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born on September 28, 1931 to the late George and Mary (Richards) Harrison in Longview, Washington. William was a graduate of Oregon State and Washington State Universities and served in the US Army from 1953 - 1955. William was a resident of Vernon for over 50 years. He worked as a ceramic engineer for both Boeing and Pratt & Whitney, later working for New York Meat Co. He enjoyed reading, gardening, Sudoku, crosswords, and jigsaw puzzles. He was a devoted father who took special joy in singing to his children and, later, grandchildren. William is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ethel; his sons William, Jr. and wife Carol of NJ, Mark of NC, Scott and wife Jill of South Windsor, Todd and wife Liz of Vernon, Jeff and wife Jess of NH; his daughter Megan Brock and husband Dru of CA; his grandchildren Emily, Tristan, Rielly, Liam, McKenzie, and Sarah Harrison, and Lilian Brock. He was predeceased by his brothers, Richard and Jack, and his sister, Helen H. Evans. The wake will be held at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road, (Route 83) Vernon from 5 – 8 pm on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. A Memorial Service is being held at the First Congregational Church of Vernon, 695 Hartford Turnpike, Vernon at 11 AM on Thursday April 13, 2017. Memorial donations in William's memory may be made to American Heart Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241.
