Walter S. Rogers, 91, of Windsor, beloved husband for 48 years of the late Ruth E. (Wike) Rogers, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2017, at Hartford Hospital. Born in Homestead, PA on November 27, 1925, he was the son of the late Stanley and Sophie Rogers. He was raised in Homestead, PA before moving to Hartford with his family as a young boy. Walter moved to Windsor in 1950 and built his own home with his father-in-law where he lived until the time of his passing. A veteran of World War II, Walter served in the United States Marine Corps until his honorable discharge in 1945. After his time in the service, Walter returned to Connecticut and took a position at Hamilton Standard where his father worked and where he had worked before enlisting in the military. Walter retired as a machinist in 1988 after over 45 years of service to the company. As a young man, Walter played semi-pro football and loved watching football especially his favorite team the Pittsburgh Steelers, into his 90's. He enjoyed camping, traveling, and riding his Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles over the years. Walter and his wife Ruth bowled for many years and he participated in tournaments throughout the country which gave Walter and Ruth the opportunity to travel. He was a kind and loving man who devoted his time and energy to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He leaves a son, Walter S. Rogers, Jr. and his wife Sally of Windsor; a daughter, Patricia Reinwald and her husband Ron of Kissimmee, FL; two grandchildren, Michelle Correa and her husband Ruben of Florida and Sandra St. Hilaire of Windsor; nine great grandchildren, Andrew, Carissa, Chelsea, Brittany, Jenna, Leonel, Sabrina, Elaina, and Sophie; three great grandchildren, Liam, Carson, and Mia; a nephew, Bruce Rogers of Windsor Locks; a niece, Linda Zettlemoyer and Roy of Windsor Locks; and his beloved caregivers and friends, Mao, Theresa, Tammy, and Madeline. Besides his wife he was predeceased by a brother, Leonard Rogers. His family will receive friends on Saturday, January 14, 10-11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Windsor.
