Virginia Cecelia Turek, 95, of South Windsor, beloved wife of the late Ernest J. Turek, passed away at St. Francis Hospital on June 23, 2017. She was born in Willimantic, CT on January 12, 1922 to the late Joseph and Cecelia (Bury) Sokolowski. Virginia grew up in Willimantic, and was one of the last surviving members of her graduating class at Windham High School. She married the love of her life, Ernest Turek in 1947 and they enjoyed 51 years of marriage until his death in 1997. Virginia was extremely proud of her Polish heritage and loved to travel the world. She was stylish and quite the fashionista; she loved clothes, shoes, and shopping. As the matriarch of the family, she always made sure everyone was well fed with her great food preparation of Polish cuisine. Her family always came first, and she took great pride in knowing that as an only child she helped produce the legacy that is her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Virginia also enjoyed singing and dancing, playing the piano, and always took great interest in her health. She is survived by her son, Gregory Turek and his wife Kathy of Sebring, FL; daughter, Deborah Barnes and her husband Steve of Somers, CT; grandchildren, Stacy Ferro and her husband Craig of Somers, Nicole Tesini and her husband Andrew of Somers, Michael Turek and his wife Emilia of Sebring, FL, Kristin Capello and her husband Greg of Lawrenceville, NJ, Cynthia Eldred and her husband Brad of Jupiter, FL, Suzanne Turek of Holbrook NY; her great grandchildren, Cole Ferro, Rylee Ferro, Mikey Turek, Shane Ferro, Avery Eldred, Greggie Capello, Joey Turek, Greyson Ferro, Kensy Eldred, Blake Palazzesi, Chris Capello, Cecelia Eldred; and many Sokolowski cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial is being held on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at St. Margaret Mary Church at 10 am leaving from the funeral home at 9:30 am. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Willimantic. Calling hours are being held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, CT from 5 – 8 pm.
