Vera D. (Palmer) Wing, 95, of East Hartford, beloved wife of Harold H. Wing, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at Glastonbury Health Care. She was born on January 6, 1922, in Fort Fairfield Maine, daughter of the late George and Beatrice (Browning) Palmer. Vera was proud to be from the Grand State of Maine, and loved to vacation at Kennebunk Beach with her family and friends. She married the love of her life, Harold Wing on October 19, 1946, and together they settled in East Hartford. She was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church in East Hartford, where she sang in the choir. She worked at Colt Firearms. She was a member of the Colt Manufacturing Retirees Club and the Pratt & Whitney Retirees Club. Vera was the life of the party, her family and friends meant everything to her. She enjoyed sports including, basketball, skiing, swimming, and boxing. She was an avid Boston Red Sox and UCONN Basketball fan and enjoyed dancing, music, and attending her grandchildren's activities. Vera was never without a smile and a wonderful greeting for everyone. Along with her husband of over 70 years, Harold she leaves her devoted children, Maxine Cosgrove of Manchester and David Wing and his wife Natalie of South Windsor; 6 grandchildren, Tommy Cosgrove and his wife Lisa, Aaron Wing and his wife Valerie, Michael Cosgrove, Lori Cosgrove, Kristy Naski and her husband Paul, and David Wing and his wife Laura; 6 great grandchildren, Rhiannon, Owen, Makayla, James, William, and Evan, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Webster, Robert, Coburn, Benjamin, and Luther Palmer, Adelaide Loose, and Fern DeLaite; and her son-in-law, Thomas Cosgrove Sr. Her family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Glastonbury Health Care for their kind and compassionate care. All guests are invited to join her family for a funeral service to be held on Thursday, May 11, 2017, 11 a.m. at The Church of St. Andrew the Apostle, 331 Orchard St., Rocky Hill, CT. Burial will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery in East Hartford. There are no calling hours. Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home in South Windsor has care of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Jimmy Fund, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226.
