Varvel A. Miller, 88, of Hartford, beloved husband of Neine Enid (Hinds) Miller, passed away on October 3, 2017 while residing at Kimberly Hall in Windsor. Varvel was born in St. Ann Parish, Jamaica, W.I. on August 5, 1929, son of the late Felix and Edith Miller. Varvel grew up in an agriculture family helping on his family farm and later worked at the Reynolds Mine in Jamaica and at the Advo printing company. He emigrated to the United States in 1985 and settled in Hartford. He was a hardworking and dedicated provider for his family who owned and operated a grocery store and bar in Jamaica and worked in factory manufacturing while living in Connecticut. "Champ," as he was affectionately called by most family and friends, loved the Lord and attended an Anglican church in Hinestown, Jamaica. He enjoyed listening to gospel music and playing dominoes during his leisure time. Varvel is survived by his wife, Neine Miller; his children, Samuel Miller, Hugh Christopher Miller, Courtney Miller, Christine Hayden, Movita Hudson, Cheryl Chambers, Ruth Scott, Glennis Gordon; a sister, Leila Miller of Jamaica; 20 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. His funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor with Pastor Roy D. Wright, officiating. Viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral on Saturday with a time of sharing and remarks from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow the service in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
