Sylvia Margaret (Barnett) Smith, 91 of South Windsor, beloved wife of 50 years to the late E. Michael Smith passed away peacefully on May 16, 2018 at Brookdale of South Windsor, after a courageous five year battle with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson's. Born in London, England, Sylvia was the daughter of the late Joseph and Isobel (Simmonds) Barnett. Sylvia was a World War II veteran of the British Army Royal Corps of Signals and emigrated from England to the U.S. in 1956 with her husband and five children. Prior to her retirement she was the office manager for Lindberg and Ripple. Sylvia was devoted to her family and enjoyed many get togethers and summer vacations in Cape Cod. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, knitting, feeding birds in her yard, discussing politics and watching sports especially UCONN basketball and the Yankees. Her favorite pastime was gardening for which she was awarded the most beautiful residential garden in Bloomfield. Besides her husband Michael, Sylvia is predeceased by her son Richard M.B. Smith and sister Eileen (Barnett) Cordell. She leaves behind a loving son and three daughters, Rosaline G. Crosse and husband Gary of East Hartford, Kathryn S. McCormick and husband Howard of Windsor, Andrew J.J. Smith of Vernon and Lauren S. Hibbard and husband Michael of Port St. Lucie, FL. Eleven grandchildren, Holly Webster of Wolcott, Ryan McCormick and wife Jennifer of East Hampton, Heather Baracchi and husband Tom of Southington, Brianne McCormick of Roslindale, MA, Caitlin Gaudreau and husband Christopher of Cohassett, MA, Adam Crosse and partner Vanessa Bourgoin of East Hartford, Erica Smith of East Granby, Tabitha Sprague of NYC, NY, Shawn Paggioli and husband Mark of Glastonbury, Gary Crosse and wife Andria of NYC, NY, Kelly Crosse of Glastonbury and Jennifer Brink Crosse of Glastonbury. Ten great grandchildren, Jonathan, William, Aiven, Nathan, Leah, Hunter, Violet, Mason, McKenna and Trevor. Many nieces and nephews and her beloved cat, Sweetie. Sylvia's family would like to thank her loving Brookdale South Windsor family where she resided for three and a half years. Masonic Care Hospice for their compassion and care and a special thank you to Mavis and her caregiver Evelyn for her care and devotion. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
