Svanhild (Rob) Dalene, 81, of East Hartland, beloved wife for 47 years of the late Kenneth George Dalene, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 7, 2017, surrounded by her family at her home. Born in Kvinesdal, Norway on April 5, 1936, daughter of the late Toralf and Johanne (Kvinlaug) Rob, she was raised in Norway and had lived in East Hartland for the past 59 years. Svanhild cleaned homes for families in the surrounding communities for many years and many of her clients turned into her closest friends. She loved cooking and was well-known for her traditional Norwegian dishes. She attended the Bethany Lutheran Brethren Church in East Hartland. In her spare time, she enjoyed completing Sudoku puzzles, bird watching, following the Boston Red Sox, and spending time with her family. Most of all, Svanhild will be remembered for her love and dedication to her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she enjoyed every moment she could spend with them. Throughout her nine-year illness, Svanhild remained active and even made several trips back to Norway to visit her relatives and friends. She leaves a son, James Dalene and his wife Sheila of East Hartland; Jo-Ann Gundersen and her husband Norman, Sandra Skaret and her husband Philip, and Judy Lillestolen and her husband Kirk all of East Hartland; a brother, Jan Tormod Rob of Norway; nine grandchildren, Torey Gundersen of East Hartland, Anna Hawk and her husband Chris of Winsted, Thomas Gundersen and his wife Lindsay, Joseph Skaret and his wife Brita, Rachel Hille and her husband Mark, Derek Lillestolen, Chad Lillestolen, Kaleb Lillestolen, and George Lai all of East Hartland; and three great grandchildren, Mason Skaret, Ava Skaret, and Benji Hille all of East Hartland. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Thorlaug Narvestad, Inger Johanne Rodland, and Hjordis Aamot. Her family will receive friends on Saturday, August 12, 10-11 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., at the Bethany Lutheran Brethren Church, 116 Walnut Hill Rd., East Hartland. Burial will follow in East Hartland Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Svanhild’s doctors and nurses, especially Dr. Joerg Rathmann, Erika, and Brooke and their team at the Smilow Cancer Center at St. Francis Hospital. They have requested that memorial contributions in her name be made to St. Francis Foundation, Attn: Smilow Cancer Center, 95 Woodland St., Hartford, CT 06105.
