Stephen C. Lander, 66, of Ellington, beloved husband of 25 years to Ann (Close) Lander, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 7, 2017 at Rockville General Hospital. Born in Rockville Centre, New York, the son of the late Carl and Marjorie (Stephenson) Lander, he grew up and lived in Wilton, Rocky Hill, and Newington before moving to Ellington 17 years ago. He was a graduate of Wilton High School, Class of 1969, and he earned an associates degree from Post University. Prior to his retirement in 2013, Stephen was employed as a systems programmer by the Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford for over 30 years. He enjoyed watching UCONN women’s basketball games and spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his wife, Stephen is survived by his sister, Susan Zeone of Spring Hill, FL; a niece, Diane Zeone and her fiancé Jeremy Le of Spring Hill, FL; two great nephews, Owen and Tyler Zeone of Spring Hill, FL; his brother-in-law, James Close and his wife Vicki and their family of Ellington; his sister-in-law, Robin Lockwood and her husband John and their family of Vernon. He was predeceased by his niece, Dawn Zeone. His family will receive friends for memorial calling hours on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Stephen’s memory may be made to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Foundation, 282 Washington Street, Hartford, CT 06106.
