Shurley O. Lund, 95, of Russell, MA and formerly of East Granby, beloved husband of the late Hattie (Hayes) Long Lund, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in Westfield, MA. Born in Gilsum, NH on March 31, 1921, son of the late Selden B. and Mamie E. (Keith) Lund, he was raised in Westmoreland, NH and had lived in East Granby since 1965, before moving to West Chesterfield, NH in 2004 and then to Russell, MA in 2007. A veteran of World War II, Shurley served with the U.S. Army in European Theater and after his discharge at the end of the war, Shurley reenlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served until his honorable discharge as a Airman First Class in 1961. After moving to Connecticut, Shurley took a position at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford where he worked for 18 years until his retirement in 1983. Proud of his military service, he was a life member of Dilworth-Cornell-Quey, American Legion Post # 102 in Manchester. In his spare time, he enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, and spending time with his family. He leaves nine grandchildren, Rosanna T. Seymour of Claremont, NH, Allison, Emily, Susan, Bruce, Teddy, Arthur, Aaron, and Jessie; and three great grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by stepson, Paul Long; two brothers; and three sisters. His family will receive friends on Saturday, July 2, 9-10 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Granby Cemetery, Granby. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111.
