Scott Karmen Lanz, 60, an 18-year resident of Vernon, husband, son, brother, and dear friend, died peacefully on July 20, 2017, at his home in Connecticut, surrounded by his loved ones. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in June 2016, and waged a courageous battle for over a year. Scott grew up in Ellington, and was a 1974 graduate of Ellington High School where he played varsity basketball (captain senior year), varsity baseball, soccer and volleyball. Scott began a career in the aerospace industry working with United Technologies - Hamilton Sundstrand where he distinguished himself with more than 38 years of service as an electronic technician. He was a member of the IAMAW Local 743. His continued loyalty and hard work was rewarded by the generous and much appreciated support of the entire Hamilton Sundstrand family. Scott was fun loving, had a zest for life and was devoted to family and friends. He was a lifelong fan of the New York Giants and Boston Red Soxox and loved watching NASCAR and rooting for Michael Waltrip. Scott enjoyed golfing and was a member of the LinkNads Golf League at TopStone Golf Course in South Windsor. His true passion was spending time with his wife, Roberta, on his Kawasaki Z1 motorcycle and a Honda Goldwing. Scott is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Roberta Enman Lanz; his parents, Karmen and Helen (Spilka) Lanz of Ellington; his brother, Todd and family of East Windsor. He also leaves behind a lot of caring relatives and lifelong friends. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on July 25, 2017, at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd, Vernon. The funeral service will be held at 11 p.m. on July 26, 2017, at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Ellington Center Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home: www.carmonfuneralhome.com In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Ron Foley Foundation, 1000 Farmington Ave., Suite 108A, W Hartford, CT 06107. The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers from VITAS Hospice Care as well as his niece Sara Enman and sister-in-law Deb Brooks for all of their care, love, and support. The family asks that in Scott's honor you spend time with your loved ones, enjoy the day on the beach or a ride on a bike and make a toast to enduring friendships.
