AUSTIN. Rose Alfano Austin of Suffield, CT, died on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Hartford Hospital. She was the wife of the late Robert F. Austin and a lifelong resident of Suffield. She was a graduate of Suffield Academy and attended St. Joseph College. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the State of Connecticut Banking Department. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a former member of Suffield Players, the League of Women Voters, Suffield Women’s Club, Suffield Arts Council, Suffield Garden Club, and the Suffield Auxiliary of the Village for Families and Children. She was also an avid golfer and was a member of the Suffield Country Club for over 55 years. Rose was predeceased by two brothers, Angelo and Charles Alfano, and four sisters, Mary Sullivan, Ann Maples, Lee Sponzo and Helen Hills. Rose is survived by her nieces and nephews, Charles Alfano, Jr. and his wife Alyce of Suffield, Diane Alfano and her husband Carlo Lazzari of New York City, Andrea Alfano and her husband Charles Freiberg of Oakland, CA, Susan Alfano and her husband Frank Galleshaw of Lincoln, RI, Marilyn Sponzo and her husband Douglas Hertz of North Granby, Anne Cappelli and her husband Anthony of North Granby, Frank Hills and his wife Sheryl of Suwanee, GA, Peter Alfano and his wife Anne of Lomita, CA, and Paul Alfano and his wife Lynda of Goodyear, AZ. Her family will receive friends Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 9:30 AM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, Suffield. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Suffield. Memorial donations may be made to Suffield Ambulance Association, Box 642, Suffield, CT 06078, or to Suffield Emergency Aid, 450 South Street, Suffield, CT 06078.
