Robert S. Loomis of East Granby, beloved husband of the late Rilla Louise (Lewis) Loomis, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017 on his 91st birthday. Born in East Hartford, son of the late Robert Ward and Mabel (Smith) Loomis, Jr. he lived in Windsor for many years before moving to East Granby in 1955. He graduated from the Loomis School in 1943, MIT in Cambridge, MA in 1946, and received his Masters degree in 1948 also from MIT. He served in the US Navy during WWII. In 1955, he founded Loomis and Loomis, Inc., Structural Engineers in Windsor; serving as President until his retirement. He was a founding co-chair of the Libertarian Party of CT and past chair of the East Granby Board of Finance. Always quick witted, with a unique sense of humor, he had an affinity for riddles, which he shared with his grandchildren. He leaves his two sons, Robert W. Loomis (Dong) of Tariffville and Richard W. Loomis (Debra) of Hampden, MA; two daughters, Nancy L. Collins (Christopher) of East Granby and Ann-Louise Loomis Jones (Ken) of Terryville; grandchildren Richard and Brian Loomis, Sarah Hunter, Melissa DeLois, Trevor Jones, and Ruoxi Wang; and great-grandchildren Dylan, Eira, Genevieve, Christopher, Brandon, Shannon, Caleb, Silas, and Lucy. Besides his wife he was predeceased by his brother Raymond and a grandson Christopher Collins. The family would like to thank Cynthia Viets and also Nattoya and the staff of Integrity Care of Bloomfield for the great care they provided. His family will receive friends Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 3-5 pm at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor. Burial will be private in Palisado Cemetery, Windsor.
