Robert E. Therrien, 95, of South Windsor beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Cable) Therrien, died peacefully on June 8, 2017 while at home. Raised in Springfield MA., the son of the late Arthur Roussy and Ethel (Leavitt) Therrien he lived in Hawaii for many years before settling in South Windsor in 2001. Robert was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a fighter pilot, he would keep his love of flying for all his life. An avid chess player he was the recipient of many awards and he later became an advocate for the blind due to his own eventual vision impairment. Robert leaves behind his son Jeffery and his wife Linda Therrien of Mapleville RI.; and his daughters Michele Speduto and her husband Vincent of Stuart Fl., and Roberta Therrien of Vancouver Canada; as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his wife Dorothy, Robert was predeceased by his son Johnny Therrien and his brother Russ Therrien and sisters; Esther Bosquet, Alice Therrien, Ruth Fregeau, and Olive Therrien. Robert's family will receive friends from 6-8pm with military honors to follow on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor CT.
