Richard P. Marcous, 68, of Vernon, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Fox Hill Center with his family at his side. Born in Biddeford, Maine, the son of the late Paul and Marion (Hilton) Marcous, he grew up and lived in Winchester, Massachusetts, Vernon, and East Berlin, returning to Vernon recently. He was a graduate of Winchester High School, Class of 1967, and he earned his undergraduate degree from Westfield State University, Westfield, MA, Class of 1971, where he was the president of the student government. He completed his master’s degree at Westfield State University in 1975. Richard was employed in the insurance industry for many years and was employed by several major insurance companies throughout Connecticut during his career. He was a communicant of St. Bartholomew’s Church in Manchester. Richard continued a long family tradition of bringing his family to Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester, MA as often as he could. He also had a love of cars and enjoyed driving his red mustang. He is survived by his children, Nicholas Marcous and his wife Sera of South Windsor, and Kristin Marcous and her husband Justin Pribanic of Tolland; five grandchildren, April Pribanic, and Adam, Sammy, Leo, and Benny Marcous; two brothers, Charlie Marcous and his wife Janet of MA, and Andy Marcous of MA; a sister, Jeanne Marcous of NE; his former wife and mother of their children, Dolores Marcous of Columbia, and many nieces and nephews. Richard’s family would like to thank the staff at Worthington Manor in East Berlin, where Richard resided for over ten years, for the wonderful care they provided. His family will receive friends for memorial calling hours on Friday, July 21, 2017 from 4 - 6 p.m. followed by a memorial service beginning at 6 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. Interment will be private and at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, CT Chapter, 200 Executive Boulevard, Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489-1058.
