Richard D. D’Onofrio, 71, of East Hartford, husband of Joyce (Lata) D’Onofrio died peacefully Wednesday, August 2, 2017 while at home with his family after a long illness. Richard was born in Hartford, the son of the late Dominic and Agnes (Thomas) D’Onofrio. Richard was a compassionate, caring, and generous man who was dedicated to his family. He was known for his “one liners” and could keep you laughing for hours. He loved a good tag sale and had an extensive collection of knives and swords. Richard was especially fond of his “Bowie” knife. Richard worked as a project engineer for the MDC for 42 years, eventually becoming number one on their seniority list; a fact that he was very proud of. In addition to his wife Joyce, Richard leaves behind his Children; Marissa D’Onofrio, Kimberlee D’Onofrio and her husband Marvin Miller; his step children Bert Carilli and Nicole Bovino and her two children Joe and Vinny; His brother Francis T. D’Onofrio and his sister Lorraine Schneider; his twin grandchildren Kathleen and Angelo (Gavin) D’Onofrio as well as his beloved nieces and nephews; Dawn, Cindy, Kelly, Tim, Matt, and Lucas. Richard was predeceased by his first wife Kathleen Allard D’Onofrio. Calling hours will be held at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor, from 4pm-8pm on Sunday, August 6, 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Church 15 Maplewood Ave., East Hartford at 10:30 on Monday, August 7, 2017 with burial to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
