Phillip J. Padegenis, Jr., 67, of Stafford Springs and Hyde Park, Vermont, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2017 with his family by his side. Born in Hartford, Phillip was the beloved son of Phillip J. and Albina B. (Latonie) Padegenis. He graduated from East Granby High School prior to entering the U.S. Army. Phillip served honorably as a SP4 and equipment operator during the Vietnam War; he was deployed to Vietnam in 1970 and then was later re-assigned to Germany until 1972. Following his military service, Phillip was employed by various employers and retired as a truck driver for Consolidated Freightways in 2002. He was also a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 597 and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 9653 in Morrisville, VT. An avid outdoorsman, he had a great respect for nature, loved to fish, had a passion for woodworking, and enjoyed going for long adventurous rides on his motorcycle. Phillip had a natural curiosity of the world around him and he always urged the people closest to him to always, "go someplace new and different." He was a caring and loving father and grandfather, and he will be truly missed and forever loved. Phillip is survived by his darling daughter, Toby Lidwin and her husband Daryl of Stafford Springs; his two grandchildren, Julie Sarah and Jake Riley Lidwin, whom he adored; his cousin, Raymond Padegenis of Old Lyme; his sweet best buddy, Molly; and a son, Paul Padegenis of Florida. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Thursday, January 12 at St. Joseph Church, 1747 Poquonock Ave., Windsor. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Windsor. In lieu of flowers, donations in Phillip's honor may be made to the White River Junction VA Medical Center, Attn: Voluntary Services, 215 North Main St., White River Junction, VT 05009.
