Nancy (Spelsberg) Usifer, 88, of Somers, CT, died peacefully on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Fox Hill Center in Vernon, surrounded by her family. Nancy was born on January 19, 1930 to the late Albert and Rose (Fiedler) Spelsberg, in Clarksburg, West Virginia. She grew up in Clarksburg and was a graduate of Washington Irving High School. Nancy went on to graduate from West Virginia University in in Morgantown with a Bachelors of Arts degree in French. Nancy treasured the lifelong friends she made there and was President of her Delta Gamma Sorority. After graduating from West Virginia University, Nancy attended the Katharine Gibbs School in Boston where she received a degree in secretarial administration. She then went on to become the administrative assistant to the Founder and CEO of Air India International in New York City. While working in New York, Nancy met her husband, the late Ralph Usifer, and the couple relocated to Connecticut after their marriage in 195-where they raised their three children. At the age of 50, Nancy pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. She obtained her nursing degree and worked as an LPN at Johnson Memorial Hospital for several years. Nancy cherished spending the holidays and Summer vacations with her family at her home in Somers, CT, and loved her many trips to Seattle to visit family. A kind, caring, and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many, Nancy will be dearly missed. She leaves a son Richard and his wife Raisa of South Windsor and their son, Sam; son Douglas and his wife Maureen of Colchester, VT and their sons, Matt and Joe; and daughter Laura Riccio and her husband Michael Riccio of Seattle, WA and their daughter, Emily and son, Ben. She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Spelsberg and her sister, Helen Buckley and her former husband, Ralph. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018, 11 a.m., at Wapping Community Church, 1790 Ellington Rd., South Windsor. A private burial will take place in Hillcrest Park Cemetery in Springfield. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers,memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 20 Batterson Park Rd., 3rd Floor, Farmington, CT 06032 and / or Dakin Humane Society, www.dakinhumane.org.
