Mildred Martha (Pennington) McQuillan of Suffield, CT, formerly of Springfield MA, died Friday, December 2 at the age of 104. She was married over 50 years to the late Donald Snow McQuillan, former owner of Spartan Saw Works, in Springfield, MA. Mildred was born in Lexington, KY on February 25, 1912. She was the daughter of the late Elmore and Alice(Eaton) Pennington. Mildred grew up in the Forest Park area of Springfield and graduated from the High School of Commerce. She continued her education at the University of Minnesota, School of Social Work, graduating in 1935. Mildred returned to Springfield working with the city's outreach programs. She and her family resided in Sixteen Acres and spent many summers at the family cottage in Holland, MA. She was active in a number of community and church organizations before moving to Suffield in 1958. Continuing her desire to help others, Mildred volunteered with the handicapped workshop at the Emergency Aid Association for 35 years. She was a charter member of the Suffield Recreation Commission and on the board of the former YMCA in Suffield. Mildred was a member of the Women's Club in Suffield and also very active in church work throughout her life. She was a member of Faith United Church in Springfield, MA. Mildred and Donald enjoyed memorable trips during their retirement. They were fortunate to meet interesting people and make life long friends. Summers were spent in New Harbor, ME for many years. Mildred will be remembered for her zest for life, her love of family and friends, and her wonderful knowledge of the world around her. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always felt blessed to be a part of their lives. Besides her husband, Mildred was predeceased by her daughter, Pamela Fenn, three sisters, Dorothy Adan, Ruth Purrington, Janet Mathews and one brother Kenneth Pennington. She leaves her daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Robert Sullivan, and her son and daughter-in-law Gary and Helen McQuillan. Mildred is survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. They were the light of her life. Mildred also leaves a sister, Joyce Ibraham, a brother Earl Pennington as well as many special nieces and nephews and their families. Mildred's extended family was always a source of joy to her. Friends and family will be welcome to gather Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 9:00 AM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St, N. (Rt. 159), Suffield with funeral services being held at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Suffield. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mildred's name may be made to the Suffield Emergency Aid, 450 South Main St., Suffield, CT 06078 or the Suffield Ambulance Association, P.O.
