Michael J. DiBella, Jr., 80, of Manchester, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2016 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Born and raised in Hartford, he was the beloved son of the late Michael and Maria (Ferriroli) DiBella. Following his high school graduation, Mike served faithfully in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, followed by service with the U.S. Reserves. Mike continued his service to the community by becoming a dedicated police officer for the City of Hartford starting in 1957, and served in the first Hartford Police K-9 Corps with his beloved K-9 partner, Yasko. After 15 years of service with the Hartford Police Department, Mike continued to support a variety of law enforcement organizations through his work at Diamond Police Equipment in Manchester and at Smith & Wesson. He became a dispatcher and then Community Service Officer for the South Windsor Police Department beginning in 1980 and until his retirement in 1997. Mike was an active volunteer throughout his life, including service with the Retired Hartford Police Officers Association, American Legion, VFW, Elks Club, Manchester Power Squadron, and Manchester Police Athletic League Board of Directors, and past president of the Interstate Police Officers Association. Mike was a kindhearted and generous spirit, and enjoyed making friends wherever he went. Most of all, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who had a passionate love for family. Mike's greatest memories were made of the simple moments with his family and he will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate to have known him. Mike is survived by his loving wife, Ann Harrington-DiBella of Manchester; three cherished daughters, Karen Hoke of Manchester, Holly McCarthy and husband Kevin of Tolland, and Michele Colletti and husband Thomas of Greenville, South Carolina; nine grandchildren: Robert and Andrew Hoke, and Kylie Strickland-Hoke, Joseph, Brendan and Mikayla McCarthy, Alysha, Cassaundra and Christian Colletti; two great grandchildren, Jayden and Bekkit; and his sister Antoinette DelGobbo of Rocky Hill. He also leaves behind many cherished friends, neighbors and extended family members, including his former wife, Jan Mann. In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by his siblings, Rose, Andy, Anna, John, Frances and Francis, and son-in-law Robert Hoke. A memorial service for Michael will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2016, 2 p.m., with military honors to follow at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd, South Windsor. His family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 – 2 p.m. A private burial will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mike's honor may be made to the Manchester Police Athletic Association (PAL), at 642 Hilliard St., Ste 1102, Manchester CT 06042.
