Dr. Meyer Malkin, O.D., 98, of Rockville, died peacefully at his home on his 64th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. He was the beloved husband of 64 years to Mildred "Milly" (Cutler) Malkin. He was born on February 3, 1918, in Waterbury to Morris and Rose (Yavetz) Malkin. "Mike", as he was known, was a graduate of Crosby High School. He served in the Army Air Corps, Medical Detachment during World War II. He then attended and graduated with honors as an optometrist from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia and began his practice in Rockville in 1951. Mike was a member of the CT Optometric Society and the American Optometric Society. He was also honored by induction as a member and a Fellow into the prestigious American Academy of Optometry. He remained in the practice and was later honored by the Connecticut Optometric Society for 50 years of service and practice. He was also a member of the Vernon Rotary Club and served as treasurer, and he was a member of Congregation Beth Sholom, B'nai Israel in Manchester. In addition to his wife, Mike leaves his three cherished sons, Dr. Frank Malkin and his wife Janice of Sudbury, MA, Dr. Neil Malkin of Ellington, and Dr. Robert Malkin and his wife, Dr. Julie of Avon; five treasured grandchildren, Daniel, Elise, Melissa, Caroline and Peter Malkin; his brother, Dr. Herbert Malkin, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Pinkert and Beverly Rappaport, his daughter-in-law, Tamra Malkin, and his brother-in-law, Dr. Henry Cutler. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. Rabbi Richard Plavin will officiate. Burial will follow in B'nai Israel Cemetery, Edith Road, Vernon. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dr. Malkin may be made to Beth Sholom, B'nai Israel Synagogue, 400 East Middle Turnpike, Manchester, CT 06040 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
