Melvena Drew, 92, of Hartford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at her home. Born in Nevis, W.I. to the late John and Geraldine (Williams) Drew, she has been a Hartford resident for over 30 years. Melvena was a member of the Family Worship Center Church of God of Prophecy in Hartford where she was a member of the Women's Group. She was a talented gardener who could bring any plant to flourish and she loved working in her garden. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and crocheting, but her main focus was her family who will miss her dearly. Melvena is survived by her sons, Sylvester Drew of Hartford, Wilford Drew and his wife Debbie of Windsor, and Michael Drew of Hawaii; her daughters, Roslyn Drew of East Hartford, Sheila Ash and her husband Glenworth of Hartford, and Murlyn Drew of Windsor; her brothers, Joseph France and his wife Deloris of Windsor and George Drew of Barbados; her sisters, Ursula Carey and her husband George, Kathleen Pero, both of St. Thomas, USVI, Rosita Harewood of Montserrat and adopted sister Christina Nisbett of Nevis; twenty grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and many beloved nieces and nephews. A homegoing service will be held at 9:30 AM Saturday, April 29 at the Family Worship Center Church of God of Prophecy, 650 Blue Hills Ave., Hartford, followed by burial in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Her family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM.
