Mary Therese (Masoian) Gavarrino, 86, of Vernon, loving wife of 62 years to Peter V. Gavarrino, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Rockville General Hospital. Born in New York, New York, the daughter of the late Dickran and Rose (Papazian) Masoian, she grew up and lived in Corona, Queens, New York, Ridgefield, and Manchester, CT before moving to Vernon fifteen years ago. She was a graduate of Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in Norwalk. Mary was the executive secretary for the directors at the United Auto Workers, Region 9 in Farmington for 14 years before her retirement in 1997. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Rockville and was a member of the Rosary Society. Mary was a local volunteer for the American Red Cross and was a founding member and former co-chairperson of the social committee at Quail Hollow Two. She fondly remembered her time as organist for Saint Mary’s church in Ridgefield. She loved singing, playing the piano, women’s fashion, and especially doting on her grandchildren. Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her beloved children, Melissa Gavarrino and her companion, Kent Smith, Paul Gavarrino and his companion Holly Colby, Michelle DiPietro, and her husband Anthony; two granddaughters, whom she adored, Erika and Brooke DiPietro; a brother, Lee Masoian and his wife Julie of TX; a sister, Alice Maurer of NC, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Her family will receive friends for calling hours on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 3 - 7 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Thursday, May 17th, at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 33 West Street, Rockville. Burial will follow in Valley Falls Cemetery, Vernon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mary’s memory may be made to The American Red Cross, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choice.
