Mary Jane Moore, 82, formerly of South Windsor, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 31, 2017. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Thomas Leo and Elizabeth Gertrude (O'Keefe) Moore, she grew up in East Hartford and lived most of her life in South Windsor before moving to Saint Mary Home in West Hartford two years ago. Jane was a graduate of East Hartford High School, Class of 1952. She began her career at age 16 with Southern New England Telephone Company, and eventually retired in 1995 with over 30 years of service. She served as the union steward for the telephone workers for several years; she also served on the South Windsor Democratic Town Committee, volunteered at Wood Library and was a 4-H Club Leader for the girls on Hilton Drive. She served on the board at Burr Meadow Condominium Association. Jane enjoyed her Second Thursday Club and Bunco friends. She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. She is survived by her three children, William Drachenberg and his wife Faye of Middletown, Cynthia Czyz and her husband Michael of Middletown, and MaryBeth Luchon and her husband Bill of Willington; seven grandchildren, Amy, Julia, Michael, Will, Adam, Heather and Lynsey; two brothers, Thomas Moore of East Hartford, and Connie Moore and his wife Nancy of Michigan; a sister, Betty Chamberland and her husband Ray of Wyoming; her lifelong friends, Dee and Bud Harvey and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters, Judith Heath, and Gladys Bernard. Special thanks to the patient and caring staff and Sisters at Saint Mary Home. Her family will receive friends for memorial calling hours on Saturday, April 8, 2017 from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor followed by a memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in East Hartford.
