Mary Ellen Zeitz of South Windsor, beloved wife of Kurt E. Zeitz for 61 years died peacefully on December 31st, 2016. Mary Ellen was the daughter of William and Martha Atnarish (nee Seyter). Mary Ellen was born in November 26, 1934 and was raised in Bloomfield, New Jersey. She graduated from Bloomfield High School and Fairleigh Dickinson University and worked with Dr. William Charney in the Industrial Microbiology Department of Schering Corporation in Bloomfield and later in Union, New Jersey. After 17 years of employment at Connecticut General and then CIGNA, Mary Ellen retired. Mary Ellen was a long-time member of the Wapping Community Church. She enjoyed volunteering, singing, reading, listening to classical music and most forms of needlework (quilting, crochet, cross stitch, and knitting). She won many ribbons at local fairs, had several quilts accepted into international quilt shows and published in quilt magazines. She made numerous quilts and donated them to Hopes and Dreams Quilt Challenge for ALS. Her travels to many of our National Parks with the South Windsor Seniors left many happy memories and a shelf of photo albums. She was a longtime member of the Wednesday Afternoon Club and enjoyed the many friendships and activities with the club. Mary Ellen was an avid fan of the UCONN Women's Basketball Team and delighted in their success. Throughout her life, she received the unconditional love and companionship of many felines, including Cinder and Meredith. Left to mourn Mary Ellen's passing are her beloved children Kevin Zeitz and his wife Sharon of Pilot, VA, Carol Fong and her husband Steve of Ellington, CT and Ken Zeitz of South Windsor, CT, her sister Eileen Waters of Los Palos Verdes, CA, a dear cousin, Barbara Cirone of Solvang, CA, dear friends Dianne and Bob Durgan of Ellington, Eleanor Geary of South Windsor and a host of caring neighbors and friends.
