Marilyn Miller Kew of Simsbury, dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully at age 75 on March 16, 2017 with family by her side. She was born in Columbus, OH, to the late Carma Hostetler and Paul Dever Miller, where she was valedictorian of the North High School class of 1959. She received her Bachelor's degree with honors in French from the College of Wooster and a Master's degree in Teaching from University of Hartford. She married Jim Kew in 1964 and taught French at Windsor Locks High School until the arrival of their first child in 1968. After raising her four children, Marilyn continued nurturing the young as a teacher at Hopmeadow Nursery School for 26 years. She had a gift for understanding and connecting with children and loved watching them learn and grow. Marilyn also enjoyed performing and appreciating music; she sang for over fifty years in the Chancel Choir at Simsbury First Church of Christ, was a charter member of the hand bell choir, and taught piano lessons for many years. Spending time on Cape Cod, reading, and relaxing with friends and family gave Marilyn great pleasure. She will be remembered for her intelligent, inquisitive, and thoughtful nature. She was a vibrant, caring person whose smile and laugh could light up a room. Marilyn's greatest joy was spending time with her family. She is survived by beloved husband James Kew, son David Kew and wife Diane Kew of Brunswick, ME, son Jeffrey Kew and wife Kathryn Sharpless of Yarmouth, ME, daughter Jennifer Kew of Chicago, IL, and daughter Kathleen Lee and husband Minjoo Larry Lee of Urbana, IL. She will be dearly missed by all of her family including her grandchildren, Andrew, Elaine, Ryan, and Lily Kew and JJ and Daehyun Lee. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother Stanley S. Miller. Visitation will take place at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Rd., Avon on Friday, March 31 from 5-7 PM. Family and friends are invited to attend a service celebrating Marilyn's life at the First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury on Saturday, April 1 at 11AM with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either First Church of Christ, Simsbury or Hopmeadow Nursery School, PO Box 534, Simsbury, CT 06070.
