Maria "Amelia" (Moita) Alexandre, 96, beloved wife of Jose J. Alexandre passed away peacefully surrounded by her family January 24, 2017 at the Hebrew Home in West Hartford. Amelia was born in Capeludos, Portugal and emigrated to the United States in 1956. She settled in Hartford and lived there until 1984 when she moved to South Windsor. Amelia was the family matriarch, Mother and a hard worker, she was a devout Catholic, very giving and would help anyone she could. Amelia was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima in Hartford. Amelia leaves her Children Marie Costa and her husband Mario of Broad Brook, Josephine Portal and her husband John of South Windsor and Manuel Alexandre and his wife Kathleen of Old Saybrook. She also leaves her grandchildren Mario Costa Jr. and his wife Juliana of South Windsor, Christine Portal of Boston MA, Amy Costa and her husband Rui of South Windsor and Brenna Alexandre of NY, NY. She also has four great grandchildren Kyle, Myah, Machaela and Morgan Costa. Family will receive friends on Friday January 27, 2017 from 5-8 P.M. at the Samsel and Carmon Funeral Home 419 Buckland Rd. South Windsor CT. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Fatima 50 Kane St. Hartford on Saturday January 28, 2017 at 10 A.M. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society 825 Brook St. – I-91 Tech CTR., Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or to Our Lady of Fatima church 50 Kane St. Fatima Square., Hartford, CT 06106.
