Mae F. (Green) Hicks, 96, of Hartford, beloved wife for 58 years of the late Ralph D. Hicks, Sr., passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017 in Windsor. Born in Dawson, GA on March 28, 1921, daughter of the late Eston Green and Florence “Flossie” Mae (Robinson) McKindley, she moved to Hartford with her family as a young girl and attended Hartford Public Schools. Mae started her career at Colt Firearms in Hartford and later took a position in food service at St. Francis Hospital where she worked for many years until her retirement. She was a dedicated lifelong member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Hartford where she sang in the Gospel and Senior Choirs and served with the Willing Workers. In her spare time, she enjoyed going to tag sales, cooking for her family and friends, and watching basketball, especially her favorite team, the Chicago Bulls! Mae will be remembered for her stylish hats, her dedication to her work, and her devotion to her church and her family. She leaves to mourn her passing, two sons, Ralph D. Hicks, Jr. (Armn Harris) of Bloomfield and Rodney Earl Hicks of Hartford; a daughter, Julia Goolsby of Bloomfield; nine grandchildren; seven nephews; a niece; and a host of great grandchildren other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by three sons, Richard, Ronald, and Jeffrey Hicks; and a sister, Frankie Will Green. Her family will receive friends on Monday, July 17, 10-11 a.m., followed by a Homegoing Service at 11 a.m., at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 2 F.D. Oates Ave., Hartford. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield.
