Lorraine (Lash) Groark, 89, of Vernon, Connecticut and formerly of Peekskill and Hopewell Jct., New York, beloved wife of the late William M. Groark, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 6, 2017 with her family at her side. Born in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Zielinski) Lesniowski, she grew up and lived in Buffalo, Manhattan, Peekskill and Hopewell Jct., New York before moving to Vernon nine years ago. She attended Cheektowaga schools and earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Buffalo, Class of 1948. After graduation, Lorraine worked in social services in Buffalo, and when she lived in Manhattan, she worked at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Lorraine was a customer service representative for Readers Digest for ten years before her retirement in 1992, and prior to that Lorraine and William were the co-proprietors of Evergreen Manor in Peekskill, New York for many years. She was a communicant of the Church of the Assumption in Peekskill, St. Columba's in Hopewell Jct., and St. Bernard's in Rockville CT. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Mary McGory of Cortland, NY, William Groark and his wife Cheri of Carmel, NY, and Kate Schultz and her husband Mike of Vernon, CT; eight grandchildren, Rebecca, Jessica, and Stephanie McGory, Jason Groark, Cathleen Sward, Colleen, and James Groark, and Joseph Schultz; a proud great grandmother to her two great granddaughters, Miliana and Chrysilla Sward, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Adelaide Lash, Henrietta Henson, and Susan Dodd, and a brother, Jack Lesniowski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption, 920 1st Street, Peekskill, NY. Burial will follow in the Cemetery of the Assumption, Peekskill, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lorraine's memory may be made to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, 114 Woodland Street, Hartford, CT 06105.
