Kathryn Rose Calnen, 86, beloved wife of the late Raymond G. Calnen, Jr., passed away on July 12, 2017 while at Saint Francis Hospital surrounded by her family. Kathryn, who was known as Kay, was born in Hartford on May 28, 1931, daughter of the late Thomas Francis O’Malley and Rose Mary (Cunningham) O’Malley, and resided in Windsor for her entire life. She was a devout Catholic who faithfully attended St. Gabriel Church throughout her life. Kay graduated from Mount St. Joseph High School in West Hartford in 1949 and married her husband, Raymond in 1955. She had a special relationship with her devoted husband for 50 years, and their union was blessed with four children. She was a loving mother who enjoyed cooking meals and entertaining her extended family. She worked part time for the Windsor Public Schools where she met her dear friend Regina Jachym. She loved traveling, taking cruises, and spending time with family and friends at her summer cottage in Point O’ Woods Beach, South Lyme. For thirty years Kay enjoyed the winter months living in Port St. Lucie, FL. She is survived by three children: Raymond M. Calnen of FL, Thomas J. Calnen and his wife Ginny of N. Granby, and Kathy Calnen and her husband Michael McKinley of Stonington. She was predeceased by her son, David P. Calnen in 2014. She also leaves daughter-in-law, Lisa Hounshell and ten cherished grandchildren: Raymond, Jr. and James Calnen, Jeffrey and his wife Kelley, Elyse, and Andrew Calnen; Kevin, Brian, and Katie Calnen; and Kathryn and Anna McKinley. She also leaves a brother, Thomas O’Malley and his wife Laverne of Suffield and a sister-in-law, Doris O’Malley of Eastham, MA. Kay was predeceased by her brother, Richard O’Malley and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and James Connolly. Her family will receive friends on Monday, July 17, 2017 beginning at 9 a.m. at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, to be followed by a mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Gabriel Church, Windsor. Burial will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to St. Gabriel School, 77 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, CT 06095.
