Kathryn Higgins Jarvis, 68, of South Windsor, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2016 at St Francis Hospital. Born in Hartford on September 15, 1947, she was the beloved daughter of the late John F. and Grace (Preston) Higgins and the loving wife of the late Raymond Joseph Jarvis. Kathryn was raised in Hartford and graduated from Northwest Catholic High School, Class of 1966. She attended St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1968. Kathryn devoted her life to her patients and to the education of nurses. She served as the Past President of the CT Chapter of the American Heart Association and proudly became one of the first certified diabetes educators in the country. She retired from nursing in 2010 after 38 years of working for the Eastern Connecticut Health Network at Rockville General Hospital and Manchester Memorial Hospital. Kathryn was a communicant of St. Margaret Mary Church in South Windsor. Kathryn is survived by her daughter, Lauralee Jarvis Rausch and husband Randall of Los Angeles, CA, and her son Joseph Raymond Jarvis and wife Darla of Broad Brook, CT, along with her step sons Raymond Jarvis, Jr of Vernon, CT, and Samuel Jarvis of Vernon, CT. Her greatest joy came from her four grandchildren, Haily, Carly, Gabrielle, and Cooper Jarvis. She is also survived by brothers John "Jack" Higgins and wife Naomi of Houston, TX, and James "Jim" Higgins and wife Carol of Punta Gorda, FL. Kathryn is also survived by countless nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her siblings Margaret Dignoti, Donald Higgins, Martha Gagne, and Mary Martocchio. Family and friends may gather on Tuesday, September 6 at 9 AM at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 10 AM at St. Margaret Mary Church, South Windsor. Burial will follow at St. Catherine Cemetery in Broad Brook. Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 5 from 2-5 PM at the funeral home.
