Katherine Sarah (Rees) Forner, beloved wife and mother, devoted sister, caregiver, friend and tennis partner, left this world surrounded by family on January 30, 2016. For all those whose lives Kathy touched with her wisdom and compassion, the world became a kinder, saner, more elegant place. She embodied an extraordinary combination of strength, integrity, courage, loyalty and inimitable style. The centerpiece of Kathy's life was her family: beloved husband Dr. Leonard Forner; son Tyler (32), his wife Amanda, and their two sons, Trent (10) and Ethan (7), of Bellaire, Texas; and son Zachary (29) of Redondo Beach, California. Kathy cherished her annual family reunions in Maine with her siblings Karen Rees Blake, Mark Rees, Andy Rees, Phil Rees, and Joel Rees – and their families. Born in Houston Texas on July 10, 1951, Kathy moved with her family to Simsbury, Connecticut, in 1969. She graduated from Hartford School of Nursing in 1972 as a Registered Nurse – and continued nursing – most recently as an assisted living nurse for Hebrew Health Care -- until diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic cancer in May 2015. Kathy was a competitive tennis player active in three USTA Leagues – including a mixed-doubles team partnering with husband. Kathy was very active – particularly enjoying the outdoors – biking, kayaking, hiking, and fishing. Kathy's family will receive friends Wednesday, February 3, 2016 from 6-8 pm at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, February 4, 2016, 1 pm at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center in Avon. Her family will receive friends at their home after the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Lustgarten Foundation for pancreatic cancer research: www.Lustgarten.org. For directions or condolences please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com
