Karen Christine (Virkler) Geiger, 69, of Ellington, beloved wife of Donald L. Geiger, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born in Hartford, CT on September 6, 1947, daughter of the late Kenneth and Christine (Luginbuhl) Virkler. Karen grew up in Ellington and graduated from Ellington High School with the Class of 1965. She was married to Donald Geiger in 1988 and together they lived in New Castle, IN, before moving back to Ellington, CT. She worked as a Nurse's Aid at Hartford Hospital and a local convalescent home in Bluffton, IN. Karen loved children and helped many families over the years. Her family was very important to her. Karen's nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews were a special part of her life and she will be dearly missed by them. She was also an accomplished organist and played for her church for many years. Along with her husband of over 28 years, Donald, she leaves her brother, Daniel Virkler and his wife Dorothy of Ellington, her sister, Lynette Goric and her husband Robert of Ellington; her nieces and nephews, Cathryn Couzens, Eric Virkler, Beth Wagenbach, Scott Virkler, Leah Luginbuhl, Andrew Goric, and Lauren Gottier; and her step daughter, Sheryl Lawson of OH. She was predeceased by her step son, Lonnie Geiger. Her family will receive friends on Monday, July 31st, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., at the Apostolic Christian Church of Ellington, 34 Middle Butcher Rd., Ellington. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 1st, 10:30 a.m., at the church. Burial will follow at Ellington Center Cemetery.
