Julia (Beach) Hastings, 86, of West Suffield, beloved wife of the late Richard E. Hastings, died peacefully on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her family. Born in Suffield in her family home on June 19, 1926, she was the son of the late Harold and Hazel (Frost) Beach. A lifelong resident of Suffield & West Suffield, Julia worked on the Hastings Family Farm on Hill Street with her husband Richard most of her life, milking cows, driving equipment and taking care of the bookwork. She was a member of the First Church of Christ Congregational in Suffield. In her later years, Julia enjoyed becoming an independent woman with the help of the Suffield Mini-Bus she spent many days at the Enfield Adult Day Center. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her family. A kind, caring, hard-working and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend she will be greatly missed. She leaves her son, Larry Hastings and his wife Susan of Suffield, her daughter, Pamela Hastings and her husband Michael J. Lindsay of West Suffield; four grandchildren, Megan Hastings, Lauren Kaplan, Lea Lindsay and Matthew Lindsay; five great grandchildren, Amy Masterson, John Masterson, Bridget Kaplan, Lucas Kaplan and Samantha Kaplan; and her lifelong friends, Art and Ellie Paddock of W. Springfield, MA and Marcuse Deane of Mystic, CT. Her family wishes to thank Dhoni Narinesingh, Sally McIntyre, Kathleen Schuman, Vic Matthews and Darlene Gallagher for their kind and compassionate care and friendship over the past few years. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, 10:30 a.m., at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. North (Rt. 159) Suffield. Burial will follow in West Suffield Cemetery.
