Juanita Thomas, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 18, 2018 at home. Juanita was born in Hendersonville, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Obie and Della (Mills) Hill and has resided in Hartford for the past 65 years. She worked and retired from the Institute of Living. Juanita was an active member of The First Cathedral, The Northend Senior Center, The Red Hatters Club and The Greater Hartford Progressive Democratic Women’s Club. A dedicated mother, Juanita is survived by her children, Patsy Darity of Bloomfield, Ada and Ronald Darity and Terrance McGhee all of Hartford, Herbert Darity of Windsor, Jeffery Darity of Athens, Ga, Juanita Diane Brown of Hendersonville, NC, Jessie Jr., Beverly, Jerome, and Tanya Thomas all of Hartford. She also leaves a devoted niece Barbara Maybin. In addition, she leaves two sisters, Reba (James) Ross and Faydean Rose, as well as her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Jessie L. Thomas Sr. (MDC) and son Ellis Thomas. A funeral service will be held at The First Cathedral, 1151 Blue Hills Ave, Bloomfield, CT, Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. with calling hour at 11:30 a.m. Memorial donations in her memory can be made to the Northend Senior Center, 80 Coventry Street, Hartford, CT 06112.
