Joseph W. Lester, Jr., 82, of Avon, beloved husband of Rosalie (Samley) Lester, passed away Monday, November 7, 2016. Born in New Rochelle, NY, son of the late Joseph and Helen (MacDonald) Lester, he was raised in Litchfield. He graduated from Exeter Academy in 1952 and received his BA in Geology from Harvard in 1956. He served in the US Army in Libya and upon discharge spent several years at Anaconda Copper Mines in Montana. He returned to NY to manage his family company, Pacquin Lester for several years. He became a registered stock broker and remained in the investment field until his retirement in 2014. He was a former member of the Avon Inland Wetlands Commission and an avid tennis player at the Golf Club of Avon. Besides his wife, Lee, he leaves a son Joseph W. Lester, III and his wife, Lisa of Avon; a daughter Caroline Martin and her husband Shawn of Bristol; three grandchildren, Joseph W. Lester, IV, Cameron Lester, and Elizabeth Bleimeister; two step grandchildren Mackenzie Martin and Matthew Martin; a brother Daniel B. Lester and his wife Cindy of Brevard, NC; a sister Mary Lou Clark of Portland, OR; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. His family will receive friends Friday, November 11, 2016, from 5-8 pm at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 12, 2016, 3 pm at the West Avon Congregational Church, 280 Country Club Road, Avon. The Rev. Dr. Brian Hardee will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in East Cemetery, Litchfield.
