Joseph Louis Lagan, 83, of Bloomfield, beloved husband for 56 years of Sophie Mary (Zavodjancik) Lagan, passed away peacefully on Friday, (February 27, 2009) at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Hartford on February 18, 1926, son of the late James G. and Mary (Longworth) Lagan, he was a lifelong resident of Bloomfield and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1943. Joseph was a retiree of The Travelers Insurance Company where he worked for 43 years. He was a member of the Windsor Lodge of Elks #2060, B.P.O.E., he served as the Fire Commissioner for the Town of Bloomfield, and was a member and past officer of the Travelers Retiree Club. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield where he was a past president and member of the Parish Council, a Eucharistic minister, a member of the Lazarus Committee and a greeter. Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Thomas J. Lagan and his wife Jolene of Overland Park, KS and Raymond P. Lagan and his wife Wenda of Simsbury; a daughter, Barbara Blowers and her husband Dennis of Vernon; a brother, John Lagan of Loureauville, LA; a sister, Dorothy Rohrer of Simsbury; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Lagan of West Hartford; and 20 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Richard W. Lagan; a brother, James Lagan; and four sisters, Midge Douville, Gladys Moriarty, Grace Mullen, and Loretta Doherty. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff in the intensive care unit at St. Francis Hospital for their care and support during this difficult time.
