John O. Giles, 64, of Bloomfield, beloved husband of Priscilla Giles, passed away Monday, April 17, 2017 at Hartford Hospital. He was born in Martinsville, VA on July 3, 1952, son of the late Nannie Hairston, and moved to Hartford at an early age. He attended Hartford Public Schools. He was a proud member of Local 559 in Hartford. John worked for Finest Distribution Company in Windsor Locks for many years and later owned C&G Transportation. John was a man of God who loved his family and enjoyed life's simple pleasures, a home cooked meal, caring for his lawn, and tinkering on his cars. John was a man of few words, but when he spoke it was powerful. Abundantly kind throughout his life, John made lasting friendships and was always willing to lend a hand when needed. He was a doting "Pop Pop" to his three grandchildren and cherished the time they spent together. He leaves to treasure his memory his wife of 45 years, Priscilla Giles of Bloomfield and their children, Tashara Giles-Shirley of Hartford and John O. Giles II of Bloomfield; three grandchildren, Sicca Lee, DaRius Giles, and Gavin Giles; four sisters, Dorscenia Giles, Garnetta Hairston, Kathy Hairston, and Virginia Hairston. When John married Priscilla, he was lovingly adopted into her family and is loved and mourned by his sisters-in-law, Vernetta Collins and her husband Jesse, Justine Moody, Ellen Thomas, Deborah Green, Marzella Cobbs and brothers-in-law, Ellis Cobbs, Jr. and Keith Cobbs. He also leaves a wealth of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017 in the Lodge Community Chapel beginning from 12 – 1 p.m. with burial following in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield. Viewing will be held from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. prior to the service at The Lodge, 130 Deerfield Rd., Windsor, CT 06095. Carmon Funeral Home of Windsor has care of his arrangements.
