John Harold Fidler, 84, of South Windsor, beloved husband of Nellie Margaret (Ryan) Fidler died peacefully on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital, surrounded by his family. John was born in Lynn, MA, on January 22, 1934, the son of the late Catherine (Wolczik) Fidler and Harold Stanley Fidler. He grew up in Lynn, Ma and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School in 1951. He went on to graduate from Harvard University in 1955 and obtained a master’s degree from RPI in 1962. John was married to Nellie Ryan, the love of his life on June 16, 1956 and they began their life together in East Hartford, where they lived before moving to South Windsor in 1962. He worked as an Engineer for Hamilton Standard, retiring in 1994 after many years of service. John was a communicant and active member of St. Margaret Mary’s Church in South Windsor. He was the number one fan of his grandchildren’s academic and athletic endeavors. He was a lifelong loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and the New England Patriots. He was predeceased by his first born and only son, John Fidler II who died unexpectedly in 2017. Along with his wife Nellie, of South Windsor, he leaves his daughter-in-law, Joan Fidler of Old Saybrook; his three daughters and their spouses: Nancy and Dr. Eduardo Meza of Eden Prairie, MN, Tracy and Skip Olander of Mansfield Ctr. and Gretchen and Herman Fuller of Ashland, MA; his grandchildren Jaime Olander and her wife Kelsey Flynn, Ryan,Tyler and Morgan Olander, John III and Jeffrey Fidler, Madeline, Lily and Noah Fuller, his great grandchildren Gram and Lila and his beloved extended family. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary’s Church 80 Hayes Rd., South Windsor. Please meet directly at the church. Burial will follow at Wapping Cemetery in South Windsor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the John Fidler Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Linda Malavasi, 15 North Maple St., East Hampton, CT 06424.
