Angels came to bring our beloved John, Johnny B, John B., Just John home to heaven this day to be welcomed by his paternal grandparents, his Oma & Opa, his Uncle John, many cousins and friends. In the arms of his Heavenly Father, he will once again become a beautiful and perfect soul, sound in mind and body. Left behind with broken hearts are his mother Evelyn O'Hagan with whom he made his home, his brother James and his wife Shelly and their children Declan and Keara, his brother Jeffrey and his wife Hilary and their children Makenzie, Mikayla, Dylan, and Rylee, and his sister Jennifer Hanelius, her husband Jayson and their children Derrick, Savonnah, and Devin. In addition he leaves behind his Aunts Sheila, Frances, and Dorothea, as well as a large family of dear cousins and friends both here and in Ireland. He also leaves his father John of East Hampton. Despite his disability, John was an independent man of many accomplishments. He was a long time altar boy and usher at the Church of Saint Ann; he graduated with a diploma from Avon High School; he was gainfully employed for over 23 years at Stop and Shop; he learned to drive; participated in the Unified Sports programs at FAVARH for many years and also participated in the Torch Run and the annual Penguin Plunge for over ten years raising thousands of dollars. John loved to travel, and travel he did, seeing most of the United States and many European countries. He enjoyed numerous trips to Ireland to spend time with family there. John was a True Blue Dallas Cowboys fan and almost always was seen in some Dallas outfit. Family time was always something John loved as well as his birthday, April Fool's Day, Karaoke, the Wii, bowling, fishing, going to Florida & Ireland, the Savage Brothers Band, Monday night tea with cousin Judy, and fun times with dear friend Lynne. But most of all, John showed us the true meaning of unconditional love. He loved everyone...his family, both immediate and extended, and his friends. To know John was to love him. He brought so much joy to each of us that our lives will be forever changed. We would like to say a very big thank you to the Hospice Team (especially Izzy and Colleen), Candace, and Rob for their support and kindness and tender care. And lastly, the staff at his FAVARH program. John's family will receive friends at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon on Sunday, July 10, 2016 from 4:00 -7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held directly at St Patrick's Church, 7 Burlington Ave, Collinsville at 10 AM, Monday, July 11, 2016. Burial will be at St Ann's Cemetery, Avon. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the John G. Bernetich Scholarship at Avon Dollars for Scholars, PO Box 706, Avon, CT 06001.
