John Daniel Toomey, 48, died peacefully on March 31, 2017. Born on April 16 1968 in Waterbury, CT, John's love of life and positive, playful disposition were apparent even in his early years spent at the hockey rink in Cheshire, CT. Scituate, MA was John's special place. He loved boats, scuba diving, shipwrecks, seafood, and the smell of the salt water. He graduated from Scituate High School and went on to earn a degree in Construction Management from The Wentworth Institute of Technology. During his career of building, he worked with a calm presence and a principled integrity, earning respect in his field. Not known to complain, John greeted each day with high spirits, full of gratitude and humor in spite of his lifetime of serious medical issues. In addition to perseverance, John taught us other lessons: inventing spontaneous songs to suit any occasion, the proper use of power tools in cooking, and the sheer joy of being young at heart. He leaves his wife of 18 years, Dawn Manogue; his daughter, Elizabeth "Lily" Toomey; his son, Dawit Toomey; his father, James Toomey (wife Joyce Myjack Toomey); his brother James Toomey (wife Donna, son Shawn); sister Beth Sexeny (husband Steve and children Brielyn and Nicholas); sister Jennifer Genewicz (children Kaylan and Allan); a wonderful circle of cousins and extended family, and a treasured group of close friends. John was predeceased by his mother Jean (MacDonald) Toomey. Calling hours will be 3 PM to 5 PM on Saturday, April 8, with a memorial service at 5 PM held at Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave, Windsor.
