John "Johnny" Cahill, 63, of Ellington, loving husband of Penny Maharan, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, the son of the late Thomas and Eleanor (Horton) Cahill, he grew up and lived in Lowell before moving to Ellington over 34 years ago. John proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. He owned and operated Mike's Repair in Ellington. Johnny was a very kind and compassionate person who mentored several people, and he loved animals, especially his cats, and he enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his wife, John is survived by three step-children, Stephanie Cahill, George Wheeler, and Russell Maharan; three step-grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah, and Silas; his best friends, Bill and Joy Brooker of Tolland; eleven siblings, and several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. His family will receive friends for calling hours on Friday, May 5, 2017 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. Funeral services and burial will be private and at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the ASPCA, 424 East 92nd Street, NY, NY 10128.
