Joan Frances (Ingraham) Sutton, 79, of Danielson, daughter of Francis and Marjorie (Thornley) Ingraham, passed away unexpectedly on March 8, 2017, at Hartford Hospital, while surrounded by her loving family. Joan was born on November 11, 1937, in Putnam, CT. After graduating from Killingly High School, Joan attended Grace New Haven's School of Nursing. Following graduation, Joan began her nursing career at Day Kimball Hospital. During this time, she married her high school sweetheart, Stephen A. Sutton, on June 6, 1959. Joan and Stephen then moved their family to Long Island, New York in 1968. Although retaining her nursing degree, Joan worked as a pre-school instructor, and curriculum developer for 28 years at Mark Country Day School in Bay Shore, New York. Upon retirement, Joan and Stephen returned to Danielson to reside. It was there that she continued to enjoy her passion for reading. Joan embraced most genres, and avidly read at least three to four novels per week. In addition, she had a fondness for rigorous word games, and her favorite game was Scrabble. Joan loved to organize family events and trips. She was devoted to her four grandchildren, and spent many wonderful times with them in exotic locations, such as the Bahamas, at school events, or just at home, playing card games. Joan lived a life that was overflowing with love, family, and friends. Joan is survived by her husband Stephen of 58 years, and their three children: daughter Lori Gschwind and her husband, Robert, of Bay Shore, NY, daughter Pamela Sutton of Bay Shore, NY, and son, Stephen Sutton and his wife, Jennifer, of Tolland, CT, along with four grandchildren; Jake Gschwind, Jamie Lynn Gschwind, Stephen Sutton, and Carolyn Sutton. Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 10 a.m. in the Westfield Cemetery, North Street, Danielson, CT. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made toward The Friends of the Killingly Public Library, 25 Westcott Road, Danielson, CT 06239 or the United Congregational Church of Tolland, P. O. Box 160, Tolland, CT 06084. Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home in Vernon is caring for the arrangements. For online condolences and guest book, please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com
