Jean Louise Harding Benner, 103, passed away on June 4, 2016 in South Windsor, CT. Jean was born on May 9, 1913 in Lewistown, PA to the late William Nathan and Loula Mayer Harding. She was the widow of Lester R. Benner, Sr. to whom she was married for 52 years, and was preceded in death by her five siblings, Ruth, Helen, William, Dorothy and Robert. Jean was a graduate of Lewistown High School Class of 1930 and later attended Temple University. She is survived by her son, L. Raymond Benner, Jr and wife Betsy of Crescent Beach, Florida, and Janice Klingman and husband George of Ellington, CT. She was predeceased by her daughter, Helen Jean Perrault of Nashua, NH. Grandchildren include Susie Flynn and husband David of Cincinnati, OH, Bonnie Wetzel of Selinsgrove, PA, Laurie Walborn of Lancaster, PA, Karen Stearns and husband Craig of S. Windsor, CT, Todd Benner and wife Lisa of Selinsgrove, PA, Amanda Klingman and John Kosciw of S. Windsor, CT, Mike Kopka of Nashua, NH and Tracy Surette and husband Joe of Georgetown MA. She is also survived by 24 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Benner assisted her late husband for many years in their Pennsylvania Ford dealership. She was an accomplished pianist, a gifted artist, creative seamstress, and avid golfer. She and her husband enjoyed travelling, visiting many golf courses in the US, as well as boating and fishing. Her pride and joy was her Red Mustang convertible. Jean lived in Selinsgrove, PA for many years before moving with her husband to Cudjoe Key, Florida. In April of 2015 she moved to Connecticut to be closer to family, though she was saddened to leave her many friends in Florida, (as well as the tropical fish she fed nightly from her patio on the water)! Jean was an active and long time member of the Lutheran Church in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, (serving as Sunday School superintendent at one time), a member of Eastern Star, the Venture Out Community Church in Florida, and most recently the Rockville United Methodist Church in Connecticut. Her philosophy of life was "work hard, and play hard." The family would like to thank the caring and supporting caregivers of the Residence at South Windsor Farms, staff members of Masonicare Hospice and Your Family Home Care. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday June 11, at 1pm at the Rockville United Methodist Church, 142 Grove Street in Vernon, Connecticut. Family will receive friends at the church at 12:30pm, preceding the service. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Sunday School program of the Rockville United Methodist Church.
