Jean Frances (Markella) Leete, 73, of South Windsor, beloved wife of Richard L. Leete, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at home in the loving care of her husband. She was born on July 6, 1943 in Brockton, MA, daughter of the late Ermon and Mattie Marie (Morgan) Markella. Jean was a graduate of Brockton High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She was married to Richard L. Leete on September 5, 1965 and together they settled in South Windsor in 1969. Jean was a volunteer with the American Lung Association from 1983-84 and went to work at Grace Lutheran Church in Hartford as the Church Secretary from 1984-85 and Parish Administrator from 1985-1994. Jean excelled in softball and basketball during her school age years. She also enjoyed fishing, bowling and golfing with her husband. She was an avid reader. Jean was a kind, caring, loving and devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed. Along with her husband Richard of over 51 years, she leaves her daughter, Christine Carlson and her husband Peter of Rocky Hill; her brother, Anthony Markella and his wife Helen of Duxbury, MA; and her beloved grandchildren, Jennifer and Eric. She also leaves her brothers-in-law, Robert Leete and his wife Nancy of Manasquan, NJ; James Leete and his wife Lorraine of Sandwich, MA; Donald Leete and his wife Elaine of East Boston, MA; and her sister-in-law, Anne Leete of Chatham, MA. She was predeceased by her brother, Frederick Markella; also her sister, Lois Markella; and her brother-in-law, Kevin Leete. Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, from 5 – 7 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. Family and friends may gather on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, 9 a.m., at the funeral home; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at St. Margaret Mary Church in South Windsor. Burial will follow at Wapping Cemetery in South Windsor. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Heifer International, 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72202.
