BURTON. Jane P. Burton, 89, of West Suffield, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2010) at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford.

Born March 18, 1921 in Springfield, MA daughter of the late, Clinton & Maud (Rockwell) Pomeroy. She grew up in East Windsor, graduated from Chaffee School, and Edgewood Park Jr. College, Briarcliff Manor, NY. When WWII broke out she joined Red Cross Motor Corps servicing Bradley Field. Jane later joined the Navy WAVES, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Flag Unit of Commander Air Force Atlantic Fleet in Norfolk, VA.

In 1948 she married John A. Burton, to whom she was married 46 years. She lived in Suffield and West Suffield for the past 50 plus years. She was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild and worked in the church office. She had a love for her cats and was an avid UCONN Women’s Basketball & Boston Red Sox fan. She loved music, especially the old standards, and she enjoyed traveling to Cape Cod.

She is survived by two sons, John C. Burton of West Suffield, Mark Burton and his wife, Lisa of Concord, MA; two daughters, Suzanne Kreitzberg and her husband, Doug of Newtown Square, PA; Christine Tierney and her husband, Michael of Atlantic Beach, NY; seven grandchildren, Erin Farling, John and Maddie Kreitzberg, Jason Tierney, Jordan, Ian, and Rory Jane Burton. She was predeceased by a son, Paul Allan Burton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 19, 11 a.m., at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. (Rt. 159), Suffield. Burial with military honors will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Suffield. Her family will receive friends Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
