It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved dad, Howard R. Stewart, 88, of Simsbury, CT on May 26, 2018. Howard passed away very peacefully and gently with his loving family by his side. Howard was pre-deceased in death by his life-time friend and wife of 58 years, Edna J. Stewart. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Beth Stewart of Venice FL, Leesa Plude and her husband Howard of Avon CT, his son Peter Stewart (pre-deceased) of Canton CT, 5 grandchildren Lindsay, Hunter, Kirstin, Tyler and Victoria, 3 great grandchildren Jacob, Alivia and Brooke. He also leaves behind his brothers George Stewart of OR and Bob Stewart of NH. Howard was born January 4, 1930 to the late Ralph and Mildred Stewart of East Hartford CT. He grew up in East Hartford and graduated from East Hartford High in 1948. Howard honorably served his country from 1948 - 1963 in the Navy Reserve, the US Army (overseas during the Korean War as part of the 34th General Hospital) and Army Reserve, obtaining the rank of SFC. Fondly known as Howie to his many friends and coworkers at The Hartford, he was a devoted employee for over 50 years. Howard was not only a member of the Simsbury United Methodist Church for 54 years, over the course of time he also served in multiple capacities from board member to caretaker. Howard and Edna absolutely loved travelling the world together. He was a dedicated blood donor, avid bowler, read multiple books at the same time and enjoyed skeet shooting, when he wasn’t working or travelling! A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 9, at 11:00 at the Simsbury United Methodist Church, 799 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury CT (SUMC). In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to McLean Home Care & Hospice, 75 Great Pond Rd., Simsbury CT 06070; the SUMC Howard Stewart Memorial Flag Fund; or to the charity of your choice. Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center of Avon is handling arrangements.
