Helen J. Godin, 99, of West Hartford, beloved wife of the late James Godin, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2016 at the Avon Health Center. Born in Westfield, Massachusetts, Helen was the beloved daughter of the late Francisek and Wincenta (Jakobowski) Brzezinski. She worked for many years in the insurance industry as a Claims Supervisor for Aetna. Helen was a devout Catholic and a proud parishioner of St. Helena's Church in West Hartford. She had a great love for her family and personal friends, and especially treasured the time she shared with her sisters with whom she enjoyed a very long and joyous friendship. She had a creative soul and loved to cook and bake all kinds of delicious foods; among her greatest delicacies were her spaghetti and sauce, apple pie, and lobster bisque. Helen also enjoyed traveling and seeing new places, shopping, and spending quiet time tending to her garden. Helen is survived by her loving daughter, Geraldine Rice and husband Tony of Avon, and her sister Frances Slasinski of Westfield, Massachusetts; five beautiful grandchildren and twelve adored great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she is pre-deceased by her son, Jim Godin, five brothers and three sisters. Helen's family will hold a private graveside service at Fairview Cemetery in West Hartford.
