BASSANO. Helen B. Bassano of West Hartford, beloved wife of John V. Bassano, D.D.S., loving mother and grandmother, passed into eternal peace on Monday, May 22, 2017. Born in Hartford on May 23, 1930, daughter of the late Jacob and Stella (Rempala) Bozek, she attended St. Cyril and Methodius School and Buckley High School. Helen graduated with a degree in Accounting from Bryant College in RI and subsequently worked for LIMRA in Hartford for about 10 years. Determined to use her education, she continued to work as accounting manager in her husband's office for over 20 years while raising a family. Helen lived in West Hartford 55 years and was very active in both St. Timothy's Church and School. She participated and served in several groups, her favorites being the rosary group, Pentecost reading (in Polish), and weekly collection accounting. She was an avid golf member at Avon Country Club for over 30 years and a past ladies club champion. Helen also loved to travel and did so extensively with family and friends. She maintained close friendships with many friends through shared interests such as golf, bowling, bridge, and church groups. For a Polish-American woman, she brought great pleasure to all by perfecting her mother-in-law's meat sauce recipe and becoming an amazing Italian cook! Besides her husband of 62 years, Helen is survived by her three children, John F. Bassano of West Hartford, Cathy Pearce and her husband Len of Avon, Matthew Bassano and his wife Angela of Milford; five grandchildren, Emily, Julia, Mary, Clare and Jacob; and many nieces and nephews. Her family will receive friends Friday, May 26, 2017 from 4-7 PM at Carmon Funeral Home and Family Center, 301 Country Club Rd., Avon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 27, 2017, 10:00 AM, at the Church of St. Timothy, 1116 N. Main St., West Hartford. Burial will be in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to Alzheimer's Association, CT Chapter, 200 Executive Boulevard, Ste 4B, Southington, CT 06489-1058.
