Harry L. Croye, 85, of Vernon, husband of the late Lois Mavis (Clevinger) Croye, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 6, 2017. Born in Bluefield, West Virginia, the son of the late Carl and Amanda (Davis) Croye, he grew up in Bluefield and lived in Huntington, West Virginia before moving to Vernon over 54 years ago. Harry earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Charleston in West Virginia. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement in 1996, Harry was the executive general claims adjuster for Zurich Insurance Company. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Vernon. He sang in the church choir and sat next to his good friend, Russ Kunz for over 50 years. Harry enjoyed singing, and he also sang in the Vernon and Hartford Choral for many years. Harry also loved to golf, was an avid reader, liked to walk and was into fitness. He looked forward to meeting with his friends at Cardio Express in Vernon. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Harry is survived by his beloved children, Barbara Nadeau of Vernon, and Steve M. Croye and his wife Teryl of Coventry, and three grandchildren, Eric Nadeau, and Weston and Brynn Croye. He was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Croye. A memorial service will be celebrated on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Vernon, 695 Hartford Turnpike (Route 30), Vernon. Burial will be private and at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Harry's memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse & Health Services of CT, Hospice, 8 Keynote Drive, Vernon, CT 06066 or to the First Congregational Church of Vernon, 695 Hartford Turnpike, Vernon, CT 06066.
