Grace L. Bidwell, 83, of Ellington, CT, left us to join her Lord and Savior, and beloved husband of 54 years, George Bidwell, Sr., on Thursday, September 1, 2016. Grace was born and raised in Thompsonville, CT to the late Angelo and Maria (LaScala) Bottone on September 26, 1932. Grace married the love of her life, the late George Bidwell, on February 10, 1951. They moved to Ellington in 1955 where they raised their family. Grace was extremely devoted to her husband and her family. She was an avid reader, enjoyed baking, taking occasional trips to Foxwoods, loved gardening and found it extremely therapeutic, and loved crossword puzzles in the Journal Inquirer. She was a natural musician and could pick up any song just by listening to it; she would play guitar in earlier days, and loved the piano, drums and accordion. She was in a country & western band and her most recent performance was at The Hidden Still just a few weeks ago where she played drums to Johnny Cash songs. Grace is survived by her son Steven Thomas Bidwell and his wife Rachel of Ellington; her daughters Laurie Bidwell Whitehead and her husband Frank of Coventry, Sherry Bidwell Desmond of Ellington, Brenda Crockett and her husband David of Broad Brook, Carla Bidwell and her boyfriend Richard Charette of Vernon; her brother Thomas Bottone and his wife Kathy of Woodstock; many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; her beloved cat Willy; and her very best friend Al Mailhot. Aside from her parents, Grace was predeceased by her son George Bidwell Jr.; her daughter Doreen Bidwell; her sisters Connie Fahey and Celeste Gauthier. Funeral services and burial are private at the request of her family. Memorial donations in Grace's memory may be made to Ellington Baptist Church, 264 Pinney St., Ellington, CT 06029.
